Dolphin Coast – 1 night (Petite Provence)

Called the “Dolphin Coast“, the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal is known for its abundant population of bottlenose dolphins in the fresh waters of the Indian Ocean. The Dolphin Coast is one of the province’s main attractions offering a rich cultural heritage, excellent fishing and spectacular golden beaches lined with sugar cane fields interrupted by beautiful coastal towns. This exceptionally scenic coastline stretches north of the Durban metropolis. Visitors can enjoy sunny days with a fantastic array of activities, including: swimming in the tide pools, surfing, lazing on the beaches all day or take a guided walk through the nature reserve from Harold Johnson.

Day 1: You will be greeted at Durban Airport by one of our representatives who will give you your travel documents. A driver will then pick you up to take you to your first accommodation (+/- 20 min). Lunch and dinner not included.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park – 2 nights (Makakatana Bay Lodge)

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park was listed in December 1999 as the first Unesco World Heritage site in South Africa for its unparalleled natural beauty and the unique interest of its fauna and flora. The park of 332,000 includes three major lake systems and eight interconnected ecosystems, with most remaining swamp forests in South Africa, the largest estuarine system in Africa, 526 bird species and 25,000-year-old coastal dunes, among the highest in the world. iSimangaliso means in Zulu the place of wonders, a name that is perfect for this unique place. Endless beaches stretching from Maphelane to Kosi Bay on the Mozambican border, Safari on the foothills of the Lubombo Mountains in the Mthuhuze, hilly meadows on the shores of Lake Saint Lucia, spectacular coral reefs, kayaking, horseback riding: Isimangaliso is a paradise for nature lovers. “Isimangaliso must be the only place on the globe where the world’s oldest terrestrial mammal (the rhino) and the world’s largest terrestrial mammal (the elephant) share an ecosystem with the world’s oldest fish (the coelacanth) and the largest marine mammal in the world (the whale)” – Nelson Mandela.

Day 2: Breakfast at the hotel. This morning, a driver will pick you up to take you to your new accommodation “Makakatana Bay Lodge” (+/- 02:30). Lunch on your arrival. +/- 15h30: Departure for your safari of the afternoon in 4×4 (max 9 person per open vehicle). Dinner at your lodge.

Day 3: Breakfast at your lodge. Today you will leave for a full day of boat and 4×4 excursions. Picnic in nature included. Dinner at your lodge.

Maputaland Marine Protected Area – 4 nights (Thonga Beach Lodge)

Maputaland Marine Protected Area includes three protected areas, the Sibaya Lake Nature Reserve, the Kosi Bay Nature Reserve and Rocktail Bay. The reserve extends to the northern border of Mozambique to Sodwana Bay to the south. This beautiful subtropical paradise includes pristine forests and wetlands dotted with lakes and swamps, as well as coral reefs and deserted beaches. The local wildlife includes many species of birds, reptiles and freshwater fish, making it an ideal destination for nature-loving travellers.

Day 4: Dawn safaris in 4×4 in the park. Breakfast at the lodge. This morning, a driver will pick you up to take you to your new beachfront accommodation (+/- 03h30). Lunch arriving at the lodge and discover your beautiful suite with pool and ocean views. This afternoon, why not go for a walk on the private beach of your lodge. Romantic dinner at the lodge or on the beach depending on the weather.

Kosi Bay – 2 nights (Kosi Forest Lodge)

Situated just north of Durban along South Africa’s scenic coast, Kosi Bay is only two kilometers from the Mozambique border. It encompasses a pristine lake system consisting of a series of lakes that form part of the Wetland Park Islands and eventually drain through a sandy estuary into the Indian Ocean. Beachgoers can enjoy a calm, quiet beach and a river mouth with exceptionally clear water to an abundance of fish species. Other duikers, hippopotamuses, crocodiles, bull sharks, loggerheads and leatherbacks, turtles – which have their eggs on the beach – and various bird life. An interesting fact about Kosi Bay is that it is home to the Kosi Palm, which has the largest leaf of any plant in the floral kingdom.

Day 8: Breakfast at your lodge. Then a driver will pick you up to take you to your new accommodation “Kosi Forest Lodge” (+/- 02:00). Lunch on your arrival. Activities included: Guided canoe tour, Guided hike in the Raffia Forest. Dinner at the lodge

Day 9: All meals at the lodge. Today, enjoy the various activities offered by your lodge. Activities included: Guided canoe tour, Guided hike in the Raffia Forest. Activities not included: One day boat trip to the Kosi lakes (picnic included).

Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park – 3 nights (Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge)

These reserves, created in 1897, are now grouped into one park and are among the most interesting in South Africa. They are not adjacent, but connected by a “corridor” that allows animals to move freely from one to the other. The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve occupies the hills of the coastal plain. This reserve covers 96,453 ha on both sides of the Hluhluwe valley, and is characterized by the diversity of its landscapes. In addition to 85 mammal species including elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, and buffalo, the reserve is the refuge of the nyala. This 96,000 ha park is the oldest and one of the largest in South Africa. Less touristy than Kruger Park, it is the meeting of two reserves: Hluhluwe and Umfolozi names of the two rivers that cross it. Proclaimed in the 1950s for the conservation of the rhinoceros to save its extinction, the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park now houses nearly 90% of the world’s population of rhinoceros. The photo safari is facilitated by the quality of the trails through the savannah that cross pretty green landscapes.

Day 10: Breakfast at your lodge. Then a driver will pick you up to take you to your new accommodation “Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge” (+/- 3:30). Lunch on your arrival. You will then enjoy your villa and its breathtaking views. In the late afternoon you will be taken on a 4×4 safari in the beautiful park Hluhluwe until sunset. Dinner at the lodge

Day 11: This morning, you will leave at dawn for a 4×4 safari. Coffee break in the savannah. Breakfast at your lodge. Lunch at the lodge. While waiting for your safari at the end of the afternoon, you could take advantage of other activities offered by your lodge (not included): Visit of a local village and meeting of the Mpembeni community, Foot safari, Rhinoceros Track. Afternoon safaris in 4×4. Dinner at the lodge.
